Description
One of the best preserved burial-mounds
is situated in this area, it is 18 m in diameter
and 2 m in height. In 1930, during ploughing, the
local farmer Ferdinand Eltoft discovered a sword in
his field. Together with this sword there was an
axe and an arrow hilt which today are lost. The
farmer probably ploughed through a grave and the
sword is today exhibited at the Viking museum at
Borg. The owner of this sword must have been a
powerful person; the grip consists of 6
bronze-plates, connected with nails, decorated with
silver (probably made during the 9th century). The
large burial-mound and artefacts indicate that the
area was important in the context of its political,
economic and social status in Iron Age society.
