Excavation Details
The four cists and settings of stones were exposed during gravel extraction between 1960 and 1962 and subsequently excavated.
Cist 1
Consisted of a hollow and several slabs including the capstone.
Finds
- fragments of bone (some cremated) and teeth representing an adult and child.
Cist 2
Measured about 1m by 0.5m and was 0.55m deep. Its capstone was in position, the floor consisted of carefully laid pebbles which were discoloured by burning.
Finds
- skull fragments, fragments of charcoal, a Beaker (nearby).
Cist 3
Consisted of an irregular slab-lined hollow measuring 1.37m by 0.74m
Finds
- Food Vessel
Cist 4
Measured about 1.2m by 0.5m and was 0.67m deep. The floor consisted of a pavement of rounded pebbles and it had a capstone with 12 cupmarks.
Finds
- Six teeth and the leg bones of a young adult, Food Vessel and a plano convex flint knife.

Description
The remains of four cists. The first was destroyed by a mechanical digger but the capstone, which measures 1.07m by 0.5m and has 70 cupmarks on one side, still lies on the summit of a grassy hillock. The second cist was disturbed by the lowering of the terrace by gravel extraction and its remains lie nearby. The remains of these and the other cists may not be visible any longer.

This site is on private land and permission should be sought.
