Description
This enclosure consists of the south
half of a univallate rath with E-W internal
diameter of 17m. The enclosing bank of earth only
averages 1m wide overall and its 0.6m high
internally and externally. Like many of these
earthen enclosures, this rath
has a fosse or a ditch from where the earth to
construct the bank was taken. The fosse in this
case shows up as a band of rushes 2.6m wide,
narrowing at the NW and E. A 5m wide area near the
NW possibly represents part of an entrance. An
interesting feature of the interior is that it has
split levels with the N end 1.5m lower. It also
contains a later rectangular building.
