Teenager's Poems
1996 to 2003

As these poems were written between 1996 and 2003 by teenagers who are now adults, the surnames have been left off. If you want to reclaim a poem and have your name attached please contact teenmag@irelandcalls.com. We can add your name or remove the poem. Better still, give us a paragraph about yourself to add to your poem.

Human nature ... by Jason

Blessed with absurd contradictions that seem more like a curse day by day.
The need, the desire, the struggle, the journey of self-mutilation.
Not the cuts on our arms but the cuts on our hearts.
Our addictions to sorrow and disappointment,
our games our vices, like cigarettes and magazines, our ridiculous dreams.
Strange how we congregate to no end
surrounded by our superficial friends.
WE of American standards love our coffee drowned hearts and our
fat friends who make us feel a whole hell of a lot better about ourselves.
WE of America, our hookers, our pushers, our pills and our cookers,
needles and spoons as we cook up death.
Trading in our souls and all of the rest,
our life, our death, our God-given souls.
WE of America reject death and health on our walkway to hell,
as our morals are thinning and broken.
Cheating wives and wasted lives.
Drug-addict mother fuckers and the men who push them along,
peddling death and feeding into this American dream.
WE of Suburbia,
where we live in a world of our own and refuse to believe
our children are fucked up or fucking.
WE of loveless hearts and golden arms,
white powder nose and good luck charms.
WE of coffee house boredom and blues.
We of America who give into pain,
and sinners become our soup kitchen saints.
WE of America, creatures of habit and denial.
WE of ignorance and genocide,
getting off on homicide.
WE of America, our blue collar work days and our
make-believe pains.
WE who ride the desk,
and if situations permit, we who ride the secretary.
WE of a life spent down on our knees.
Eager to please.
Eager to dream.
Eager to believe.
WE of America.
