Teenager's Poems
1996 to 2003

As these poems were written between 1996 and 2003 by teenagers who are now adults, the surnames have been left off. If you want to reclaim a poem and have your name attached please contact teenmag@irelandcalls.com. We can add your name or remove the poem. Better still, give us a paragraph about yourself to add to your poem.

SPORT? by William

Sport is balanced, sport has rules,
Sport is not played by fat pompous fools,
The rules of football or basketball show,
Each team has the same chance from the word go.
I want justification, a convincing report,
As to why hunting the fox and the hare is a sport,
Fifteen or twenty or thirty to one,
Don't tell me that's balanced, or even much fun.
With things progressing as they are today,
Surely there must be a better way,
A humane form of killing or birth control,
Like we do with rats or mice or the mole.
But people give chase with hound and horse,
Or in the case of the hare, fast dogs course,
The chase can take hours, when it comes to the kill,
The animal's tired, scared, with broken will.
So this isn't sport but obscenity,
Full of bloodlust, carnage, and no pity,
Stop it today, impose every ban,
This isn't the act of "civilised man"
