Teenager's Poems
1996 to 2003

As these poems were written between 1996 and 2003 by teenagers who are now adults, the surnames have been left off. If you want to reclaim a poem and have your name attached please contact teenmag@irelandcalls.com. We can add your name or remove the poem. Better still, give us a paragraph about yourself to add to your poem.

When Do I get my turn? by Heidi

Why is it okay for you
To tell me how messed up I am
Or when I'm wrong
While you're still in reaction
But it's not okay for me
To tell you when you hurt me
After I cool off
And I'm no longer in reaction
It doesn't feel worth the effort
To go back and revisit it
To point it out to you how it hurt
It doesn't feel worth the risk
Of you going into reaction
And turning back on me and telling me
How wrong I am again
You keep telling me how tired you are of telling me
How messed up I am
Well, I'm tired of heariing it
It's not an even balance
The "you're messed up" message feels like it out weighs
The "you're okay" message sometimes
