Traditional Irish Music Links for Ceili Bands
'Ceili' Bands are synonymous with Ireland and have been around for centuries. The word 'Ceili' means 'party' in Gaelic and a céilí band is a group of musicians convened to provide music for a céilí dance (social dance). In the early days, in Ireland céilís would take place in a house or at a village crossroads - basically, wherever musicians and dancers got together. Instruments played in a céilí band usually include the button accordion, fiddle, concertina, flute, banjo and drums.
