County Kilkenny, Ireland
Kilkenny
comes from the Irish word Cill Chainnigh - Cainneach's
church, founded in Kilkenny City by St. Canice.
Kilkenny boasts a unique selection of historic sites and buildings
from the 7th century and is also known as the marble city
because of the black marble which is quarried there.
The ancient Irish game of hurling is an important part of life
in Kilkenny with its county hurling team being many times
champions of Ireland.
